School and Classroom Information:

Here's everything you wanted to know about Canyon Ridge and our Classroom.  If you have questions that I haven't addressed, please feel free to send an email...I'll be happy to add it to the website!

 

Attendance/Hours/Tardies:  Students can begin coming on campus no earlier than 8:40.  Our school day begins at 9:00.  Any student who comes on campus after this time will be required to go through the office and obtain a tardy pass before coming to class.  We dismiss at 2:45 on Mondays (except for the first day of school) and at 3:45 Tuesday through Friday.  On Early Release days, our school dismisses at 1:00.  

If your child will be absent for the day, please remember to call the attendance line.  Their phone number is 623.523.8453 and leave a message with your name, your child's names, and the reason for their absence.  Our attendance clerks will really appreciate it!

 

Transportation: We have a few busses that provide transportation for students enrolled in our GATE program.  Due to budget cutbacks, bussing will no longer be provided to students who live outside our attendance boundaries. 

Recently a letter was sent to each of our students outlining new areas to pick up your children after school.  Any students in Kinder through second will meet in front of the school.  Students who are in third through eighth grades will meet around the side of the building in what used to be the bussing area.  It is important to remember these super helpful tips:

  • Students are not permitted to pick up their younger siblings at their classrooms!
  • Students should meet eachother in the area with the youngest sibling.  Example:  I have a first grader, a third grader, and an eighth grader.  All of my children would wait in the first grade area.  That way I only have to make one stop in front of the school.
  • Please do not call your child to meet you across the parking lot...the teachers will not let them.  Our first priority is your child's safety and you will need to either park and walk to pick them up, or you can stay in your vehicle and drive thru.  Thanks for your understanding!
  • Be kind to the traffic masters!  We have several teachers stationed in areas of parent pick up.   They always appreciate a smile as you're driving by!
  • Use the crosswalks!
  • Be patient! 

Schedules can get a little crazy so if you plan on changing the way your child gets home, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send a note with your kids letting their teacher know!  Notes, emails, phone calls, smoke signals...they all work really well.  Good communication is so important and keeps us from losing kids!  YIKES!

 

Grades:  All of your kiddos grades can be accessed on Pinnacle, a web based grading program.  You will need a user name and password.  Traditionally, these are sent through the mail at the beginning of the school year.  If you don't have the necessary information, you'll need to come into the office and speak with one of our administrative assistants.  You'll be required to present identification, but then you'll be given all of the information necessary to access your child's account.  Pinnacle is really terrific.  It presents real time data on your child's academic progress.  You can even sign up for email updates so as soon as a grade is entered, you are notified!  Pretty cool!

 

Birthdays:  We love love love celebrating birthays.  If you would like to send in a treat for your child's birthday, please do so!  Just remember to send in enough for the entire class and that the treats must be store bought (as is required by the health department). 

 

Snacks and Lunches:  It will be very important for kids to eat a healthy breakfast.  Third graders eat lunch around 12:20 and because we have such a reasonable lunch time, we do not have a snack time.  Student lunches cost $2.00.  Students can bring in their lunch money in cash, or you can write a check.  Students are responsible to care for their own money.  You can also pay your child's account online at  www.dysart.org.

 

Absences & Make Up Work: If your child is absent, please make sure you call the attendance line.  At that time, you can call me, send me an email, or request make up work through the office.  I'll be happy to send any work home that needs to be completed unless it is some kind of assessment.  The students will have to complete those in class when they return.  

Of course, if your child is sick PLEASE keep them home!  My primary concern is always the health and welfare of your child.   It's also important to be aware of how much class time your child misses.  No amount of make up work can compensate for the learning activities, discussions, and experiences that children have on a daily basis.  Every day counts and after a while the lost learning time really adds up!
